Flipper Zero Launches App Store for its Multi

Jul 11, 2023

The Flipper Zero, a portable gamified multi-tool designed for pentesters, has gained popularity since its debut in 2020 through a Kickstarter campaign. It has now launched its own app store. The device has the capability to read, copy, and replicate the functionality of wireless devices like RFID cards, NFC tags, and remote controls that rely on radio signals or infrared pulses. While there were concerns about its potential use for illicit activities, Flipper Devices Inc. has introduced Flipper Apps, a central hub for free and open source applications created by third-party developers.

The Flipper Apps include a software-based authenticator for two-step verification, a replacement for the Xbox’s infrared remote control, a barcode generator, a digital metronome, and various games like Solitaire and Arkanoid. To ensure the safety and functionality of the applications, Flipper Devices Inc. will review submissions manually and through automated processes.

The Flipper Zero app store is not a traditional app store where users can purchase applications, as all the software available through the hub is free and open source. The applications can be installed using the Flipper Zero app on a mobile device or through a browser when the device is connected to a computer.

With the launch of Flipper Apps, Flipper Devices Inc. aims to provide a platform for developers to create innovative applications for the Flipper Zero device. Despite its initial concerns, the Flipper Zero has proven to have a diverse range of practical uses beyond its potential for illicit activities.
